Annual fire extinguisher inspection in Woburn and across Massachusetts
Every portable extinguisher in your building needs a yearly inspection by a licensed company, and NFPA 10 says when. We check each unit by hand, fit a new dated tamper seal, tag it and keep the record your fire inspector will ask to see.

The checklist
What we check on every extinguisher
Every unit gets the same hands-on check, whether your building has six extinguishers or six hundred.
- Pressure gauge. The needle has to sit in the green, which tells us the extinguisher is charged to the right pressure.
- Pull pin and tamper seal. The pin must be secure but easy to pull in an emergency. Last year's seal comes off and a new dated one goes on.
- Hose and nozzle. No cracks, blockages or damage.
- Cylinder. No dents, rust, leaks or other wear that could stop it working.
- Instruction label. Still legible and intact, so anyone can read how to use it.
- Placement. Still where it belongs, easy to reach, and not blocked by stock, furniture or a new partition.
Then comes the fire extinguisher tagging: each unit gets a dated inspection tag showing when it was checked, and the visit goes into your service records.

After the visit
What you have when we leave
-
1
A tag on every unit
Each extinguisher carries a new dated seal and inspection tag, so anyone walking the building can see it was checked this year.
-
2
A record you can show
We log every unit we inspect. When your fire inspector or insurer asks when an extinguisher was last serviced, you have the answer.
-
3
A reminder before it's due
We track the next inspection and any 6-year or hydrostatic test coming up, and remind you before each one.
Beyond the gauge
What else we look at while we're in your building
An inspection is also a walk-through. These are the questions we raise when the answer isn't obvious.
The right extinguisher for the room
Labs, clean rooms and other special hazards need equipment designed for that hazard. If a unit doesn't suit the room, we'll say so.
Extinguisher salesSigns and cabinets
Every extinguisher should be easy to find and properly located, with the right signage. If a sign is missing or a unit is blocked, we'll point it out.
Cabinets and signageDelicate electronics
The wrong agent can ruin the equipment it's meant to protect. We'll tell you whether your extinguishers are right for expensive or delicate electronics.
Trained employees
OSHA 1910.157 calls for annual training wherever employees are expected to use an extinguisher. We run that class at your site.
TrainingThe other dates
The annual inspection isn't the only service on the calendar
NFPA 10 sets three more dates: a quick monthly look by your own staff, internal maintenance every 6 years for some units, and a hydrostatic pressure test every 5 or 12 years depending on the type.
We track each date for every unit and remind you before it comes due. Our testing and maintenance page explains what each one involves.

Your staff can and should do the monthly visual check. The annual inspection is different: NFPA 10 requires a certified technician, and in Massachusetts the work is done by a company licensed by the Department of Fire Services. FireSafe's license number is MA-CR #4623.
We tell you what's wrong and what it needs. A used or low-pressure unit goes through our exchange program: we swap it for a comparable, completely refurbished unit so there's no gap in protection. Damage or an overdue test can mean maintenance or replacement. We won't sell you a new extinguisher you don't need.

Yes. If a room has no extinguisher nearby, has the wrong type for its hazard, or a unit has been moved out of reach, we'll tell you what it takes to be in compliance, and nothing more. New Amerex extinguishers are available from us when you need them.
